In 1880 Tokutarō Naoe edited a five volume picture album entitled Shunzan Gafu (i.e., Picture Album by Shunzan). Shunzan’s last name wasn’t given. It is unlikely that the artist was Shunzan Katsukawa, who was active in the late 1700s, because that artist mainly drew pictures of people. This gallery shows thirty-five pages from volume 1 which included pictures of flowers and (or) birds. Click on a picture to enlarge it. The artist drew the shapes of his flower and bird subjects in a true-to-life way but he did not show their true colors. To see flower-bird pictures from volumes 2-5 click here.
